The quality of the air we breathe is crucial for our health. The Controlled Mechanical Ventilation or CMV aims to renew the air in our homes. Once it is properly sized, its operation must be guaranteed, which requires good maintenance!
The CMV, or controlled mechanical ventilation, serves to evacuate polluting particles to the outside of the house. With continuous use, the CMV inevitably gets dirty. The accumulation of dust and dirt within the equipment promotes the premature aging of the CMV and hinders its efficiency, preventing it from fulfilling its role of filtering external pollutants. A CMV that does not function properly can also be noisy, consume much more energy, have a reduced lifespan, and can even lead to overheating of the device, or even a fire.
If air renewal is not ensured, mold, humidity, and general deterioration of the building can occur. There can also be health consequences for the occupants. It should be noted that indoor air is often more polluted than outdoor air. A good ventilation system does not prevent a minimum daily ventilation of the home for 5 minutes.
Maintaining a CMV inevitably involves cleaning the equipment. For safety reasons, first cut off the power before cleaning your CMV. Then disassemble the ventilation outlets, which are the most used and therefore the dirtiest parts. Remove the dust with a vacuum cleaner and soak them in hot water with a degreaser. Always with the degreaser, then clean the fan.
The filters should also be changed every 6 months to maintain their effectiveness and not become additional sources of pollution
As we have seen, most of the operations for maintaining CMVs can be done by anyone, although it is possible to entrust it to a professional.
By calling a professional for the maintenance of the CMV, they will proceed with cleaning the equipment, maintaining the ducts and central unit, checking the air inlets, and especially washing the ducts and replacing the filters.
